Marcel Krömker is a double bassist, composer, and bandleader based in Berlin. He has over 20 years of international touring experience across 24 countries on five continents. Known for his deep groove and creative versatility, he studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the Jazz Institute Berlin. He took masterclasses with Bobby McFerrin, John Scofield, Richard Bona, and bassists Mike Richmond and John Clayton. Marcel Krömker has since built a reputation as a compelling voice in jazz and contemporary music.


Since 2007 he has recorded for Traumton, ACT, and Laika, and shared stages with artists including Nils Landgrén, Toni Lakatos, and Changuito. His project Marcel & the Bathing Birds — whose album Tweet! features New York trumpeter Alex Sipiagin — brings together original composition, free improvisation, and a sound that moves fluidly between the acoustic and the electronic.


Alongside his work as a performer, Marcel is founder and composer of Terz im Viertel, a children’s jazz ensemble that creates immersive concert experiences. Terz im Viertel combines storytelling, improvisation and live performance. The project is recognised by Initiative Musik for its artistic and educational impact. It introduces young audiences to jazz through movement, imagination, and active participation. Marcel also draws in his spare time, and has begun designing album artwork for other artists.

Marcel Krömker ist Kontrabassist, Komponist und Bandleader aus Berlin. Er hat über 20 Jahre internationale Bühnenerfahrung in 24 Ländern auf fünf Kontinenten. Er studierte am Conservatorium van Amsterdam und am Jazz Institute Berlin. Marcel Krömker lernte u.a. in Masterclasses bei Bobby McFerrin, John Scofield, Richard Bona sowie den Bassisten Mike Richmond und John Clayton. Seither hat er sich als eigenständige Stimme im Jazz und in der zeitgenössischen Musik etabliert.


Seit 2007 erscheinen seine Aufnahmen bei Labels wie Traumton, ACT und Laika; auf der Bühne stand er u.a. neben Nils Landgrén, Toni Lakatos und Changuito. Sein Projekt Marcel & the Bathing Birds — dessen Album Tweet! den New Yorker Trompeter Alex Sipiagin als Gast begrüßt — verbindet eigene Kompositionen, freie Improvisation und einen Klang, der sich souverän zwischen Akustik und Elektronik bewegt.


Neben seiner Arbeit als Performer ist Marcel Mitgründer und Komponist von Terz im Viertel, einem Kinderjazzensemble, das immersive Konzerterlebnisse aus Storytelling, Improvisation und Live-Performance entwickelt. Das von der Initiative Musik ausgezeichnete Projekt führt junges Publikum durch Bewegung, Vorstellungskraft und aktive Teilhabe an die Welt des Jazz heran. In seiner Freizeit zeichnet Marcel, darüberhinaus gestaltet er Albumcover für andere.
